Susie Douglas

Genealogy is in my 'genes' with our original family tree compiled meticulously by my great grandfather's brother George Aynsley-Smith.  His son Philip then took up the mantel, and now the extensive family archive has been entrusted to me.   This extends far beyond our family lines with pedigrees of many other Northumbrian families, perhaps not landed enough to make the printed page!

I have been researching for almost as long as I can remember.  It was certainly from my mid-teens as I didn't drive and had to take bus for my visit to the Archives!  This was in the days before electronic systems, Northumberland Archives were still based in Gosforth and before Berwick Record Office opened!

In 2015 I decided to put my money where my mouth is and signed up for the Masters in Family and Local History with Dundee University.  I am approaching the end of the taught modules and the 'dissertation' is looming large on the horizon.  I am also a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and an Associate member of Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives.
