Atcherley - One Name Study
A bit of background from Steve about his One Name Study of the name Atcherley.
I would sometimes say to my Mum that her unusual maiden surname – Atcherley – meant that it should be easy to trace her ancestry. An episode of “Who Do You Think You Are?” in 2007 finally persuaded me to put my claim to the test.
My research gradually expanded to include not just my maternal ancestors and kin but all those who bore the Atcherley name, and I joined the Guild of One Name Studies. As I pieced together the family’s genealogy I also uncovered many fascinating stories about the lives of the Atcherleys, stories which I decided to rescue from oblivion and share with the world. Atcherley.org.uk, the Atcherley family history website, was born and now takes up much of my spare time!
